Fence door locks and casters for different ground surfaces

No matter how strong the fence gate is, it will be useless if the ground is wrong and the accessories are not matched. Especially in the European and American markets, customers use it in a variety of scenarios, from farm grass, horse farm sand, to industrial park concrete floors, to common masonry pavements in gardens. Under different ground conditions, there are clear requirements for door lock fixation, ground plug use, caster operation and anti-corrosion performance.

In this article, we will start from actual use and talk about: facing different terrains, how to choose and match fence locks and casters?

01|Sand: The key is "anti-loosening" and "anti-sinking"
Although sand is easy to construct, the soil is soft and lacks grip. This means that all hardware accessories that need to be "inserted" or "screwed" must be extra stable on sand.

Door lock and ground plug recommendations:
Choose a long-rod ground plug, with a recommended insertion depth of ≥30cm. The head of the plug can be considered with a "conical expansion" or "spiral design" for easier stability;
Avoid using a door lock structure fixed with a single screw hole. It is preferred to use a widened back plate and a three-hole or four-hole reinforcement design to improve the ability to bite the ground;
Hot-dip galvanizing is the minimum anti-corrosion standard. Sand is prone to water accumulation. It is safer to use a door lock material with a corrosion-resistant zinc layer of ≥70μm.

Cast wheel recommendations:
Avoid using rotatable universal wheels, which are prone to slipping or tipping in soft sand;
It is recommended to use large-diameter, thick wheel width, fixed forward casters to improve rolling stability;
With a spring buffer structure, it can resist severe vibrations caused by irregular surfaces.

02|Grassland: The key is "rust prevention + flexible adaptation"
Grassland is slightly more stable than sand, but it is humid and rainy, and has a high risk of corrosion. In addition, the plant root system is complex, which can easily block the operation of casters.

Door lock and ground plug recommendations:
It is recommended to use stainless steel 304 pin locks or limiters, which can effectively resist rain and dew erosion;
The ground plug can be selected as a movable and removable structure, which is convenient for regular cleaning or moving;
If the door lock structure needs to contact the grass root area, it is recommended to install plastic gaskets or rust-proof washers to delay contact corrosion.

Caster recommendations:
It is recommended to use a buffer wheel + anti-winding guard combination to effectively reduce weeds entangled in the wheel axle;
It is recommended to choose TPR rubber or nylon reinforced wheels, which are wear-resistant and easy to clean;
The grass ground is more uneven, and a wheel frame with an adjustable height design can be selected to ensure the balance of the door body.

03|Concrete floor: The structure is stable, but it requires "precise fixation and durable rolling"
Concrete is the most ideal hard floor, but it has extremely high requirements for the alignment accuracy and durability of the screw holes of hardware.

Door lock and ground plug recommendations:
It is recommended that the bolt lock adopt a flat installation structure with standard hole spacing, and be fixed with expansion screws or concrete anchor bolts;
The ground plug can be directly drilled into the ground, but it needs to be equipped with a positioning ring or limit cover to prevent the hole from being worn after long-term use;
In terms of surface treatment, hot-dip galvanizing + black spray double-layer structure is the most common, which is both corrosion-resistant and beautiful.

Caster recommendations:
Fixed/rotating types are both possible, and it is recommended to use steel frame structure and industrial-grade bearings;
PU wheel material with low rolling resistance is suitable for hard ground pushing and pulling, with low noise and slow wear;
During installation, pay attention to whether the contact surface between the caster bottom plate and the concrete is flat, otherwise long-term unbalanced load will easily damage the wheel frame.

04|Brick and stone floor: irregular structure, the focus is on "flexible installation and shock absorption"
Gardens, courtyards, etc. are often paved with bricks and stones. The surface is beautiful but uneven, and it is necessary to focus on the matching and buffering capacity of hardware and the ground.

Door lock and ground plug recommendations:
It is recommended to choose an adjustable bottom plate or a bendable back plate design for the latch lock to adapt to uneven brick surfaces;
It is recommended to use a ground limiter + lock structure combination for the ground plug part, which does not necessarily have to be inserted deep into the ground, but rather a "surface clamping type" to control the opening and closing of the door body;
It is recommended to use a black spray-coated door lock for a more coordinated garden environment.

Caster recommendations:
It is strongly recommended to use a spring buffer + universal adjustable structure to absorb the impact of ground fluctuations;
A wheel set with a "positioning brake" can be optionally selected to prevent the door body from sliding on the slope;
The wheel material must have a certain soft elasticity, such as a rubber core wheel, to prevent crushing the brick surface or slipping.

Rust prevention and durability recommendations (applicable to all floors)
No matter what kind of floor, the use environment of outdoor door locks and casters has long faced the challenges of "rain + ultraviolet rays + mud + impact". It is recommended to give priority to the following options in material selection:
Hot-dip galvanized steel: cost-effective, suitable for most medium-corrosion scenarios;
Black spray treatment: rust-proof + beautiful, suitable for home and light fences;
Stainless steel 304/316: high corrosion resistance, maintenance-free, recommended for projects in humid, rainy or coastal areas;
Surface parts are recommended to be equipped with nylon or PVC washers to prevent metal from rusting due to direct friction with the ground.

Understanding the ground can sell the right accessories
The reason why many customers' fence gate projects are repeatedly adjusted or damaged in advance is not because the product itself is bad, but because the difference in "ground" is not taken into account.
